Charlestown is located about one mile outside the town of St Austell. It is an amazing unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port.
It was constructed between 1791 and 1801 by Charles Rashleigh in response to the growth of the growth of the local mining industry where it was originally built to export copper and import coal, and eventually it was used for the export of China Clay.
Charlestown is now the perfect place to visit for that relaxing stroll around the historic harbour or for a delicious evening meal from one of the many restaurants.
